Dr. Garrett is a native of Atlanta and graduated from Marist High School. He attended Emory University and the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, receiving his D.V.M. in May 1967. Dr. Garrett and his brother, Dr. Gary Garrett, operated Roswell Animal Hospital for forty years before retiring. He has recently joined the staff of Alpharetta Animal Hospital.

Dr. Garrett and his wife, Barbara, have two sons, Mark and Matt, and two grandchildren, Scott and Rowan.

Dr. Garrett raises and field trials English Setters and enjoys the sport of fly fishing.
