Dr. Hines is originally from Chamblee, Georgia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta, and his D.V.M. from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1966. Dr. Hines worked in Chamblee and Sandy Springs from 1966-1973. In 1973, he purchased Alpharetta Animal Hospital, transforming it from a farm animal facility into the small animal hospital it is today.

In 2002, Governor Perdue appointed Dr. Hines to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine. He has also served many years on the Georgia Veterinary Medical Board of Directors. Dr. Hines is married to Hazel Hines. They have four children, seven grandchildren, and four cats.
